Why I Chose WordPress

It took about a week to understand WordPress, all the plugins used, and the settings. I rented a domain name and hosting. Created a child theme and edited the comment code a bit. And here’s the result — the site is live!

Why did I choose WordPress and not something else? The market. For now, it dictates what to choose. In fact, it will always be that way. It’s hard for an average developer with a custom-built CMS to compete with giants like Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress. These platforms are developed by hundreds or even thousands of developers worldwide. But I still managed to carve out a small niche. However, this site is about something completely different...

So why WordPress? Why not Joomla or Drupal, for example? Don’t take it the wrong way, but I immediately ruled out Joomla — it just didn’t appeal to me. And if you’re not interested or excited, there won’t be any use in working with it. Still, I’ll return to it once I’ve properly learned WordPress and Drupal.

Then there’s Drupal. I must admit, I really like it. Two or three years ago, I worked with it — I didn’t build websites, but I studied its API and wanted to write modules. But it didn’t work out — it was too hard. It was much easier at the time to learn Codeigniter or Kohana and write a CMS from scratch — which I did.

I chose WordPress because it works faster and is easier to use and configure. Besides, in a short time I managed to learn a bit of the API. Which brought me a little closer to one of my goals — writing modules for WP.
