Getting to Know Drupal

Due to certain circumstances, I recently had to dive into studying the CMS Drupal. As I’ve already mentioned, it’s an excellent engine that I’m genuinely impressed with. It’s definitely not simple — the entry threshold is much higher than that of WP. However, it is incredibly flexible and functional. And if you spend a day or two with it, you can understand it just as well as WordPress. Though I must say, WordPress is significantly easier to master.

Once I’m on vacation, I’ll definitely spend more time studying it in depth and testing site development like catalogs, classifieds, and online stores. It’s said that all of this can be done without any coding — just using the built-in tools and a dozen third-party modules. Well, we’ll see about that.

Of course, I would have liked to tell you how I painlessly and willingly switched to lUbuntu. But unfortunately, my case was quite different. But more on that later — let me start with a bit of history.

I first learned about Linux back in 1998 or 1999. I was still in school when my older brother brought home a couple of Linux discs (I believe it was Linux Mandrake). He split the hard drive that had Windows 98 into two parts and installed the OS. At the time, I was mostly interested in games, but I was still curious to see what a new OS looked like.

Why I Chose WordPress
Why I Chose WordPress

It took about a week to understand WordPress, all the plugins used, and the settings. I rented a domain name and hosting. Created a child theme and edited the comment code a bit. And here’s the result — the site is live!

Why did I choose WordPress and not something else? The market. For now, it dictates what to choose. In fact, it will always be that way. It’s hard for an average developer with a custom-built CMS to compete with giants like Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress. These platforms are developed by hundreds or even thousands of developers worldwide. But I still managed to carve out a small niche. However, this site is about something completely different...
